SAMURA.043
Oversized SAMURA nomad bag is a perfect companion on your inter-dimensional and other kind of journeys. This bag features vintage Tatreez embroidery from Palestine.
Tatreez is the traditional embroidery of Palestine, practiced primarily by women and transmitted across generations as embodied knowledge. Historically stitched into garments, dowry textiles, and domestic objects, tatreez functioned as a visual language of place, belonging, and continuity, with motifs and compositions often associated with specific villages and regions.
By the mid-20th century, particularly following displacement and dispossession, tatreez took on heightened cultural and political significance. Colour became a powerful expressive tool. Red conveyed vitality, bloodline, love, and defiance; black carried endurance, mourning, and rootedness; together they formed a dense visual language of survival. Accents of white sharpened form and rhythm, while other colours—such as blue and green—expanded regional and emotional expression.
Tatreez is a portable archive of memory and identity, asserting presence and continuity in the face of rupture. Stitched by hand and carried on the body, it remains a living practice through which Palestinian history, resilience, and attachment to land are continually affirmed.
