SHOLA.029
Introducing one-of-a kind Shola shirt featuring half sleeves, one pocket and a spread collar. It is cut for a loose fit.
This unique shirt is created from vintage Banarasi silk jacquard in gold. It features repeating geometric ornament rooting in Mughal influence over the region’s textile tradition.
The Banarasi textile tradition is one of the most celebrated and ancient weaving traditions of India, originating from the city of Varanasi (Banaras), Uttar Pradesh. Renowned for its luxurious silk fabrics, intricate brocade work, and opulent zari (gold and silver thread) embroidery, Banarasi textiles have been a symbol of elegance and royalty for centuries. The weaving tradition dates back to the Mughal era, when artisans were influenced by Persian and Indian motifs, resulting in intricate patterns featuring florals, paisleys, and geometric designs. Banarasi sarees and fabrics are traditionally handwoven on looms, with techniques such as kadhua (handwoven motifs) and tanchoi (fine patterns without floats). Today, Banarasi textiles continue to be cherished for their richness and craftsmanship, often worn on special occasions such as weddings and festivals, representing the heritage of Indian handloom artistry.
