KAJ.025

This one-of-a-kind garment is reversible and unique from each side.

Introducing KAJ - rich kimono style jacket , which is crafted from hand woven indigo dyed cotton from Wardha, Maharashtra with Kashmiri Aari embroidery  and Thai handwoven silk Ikat elements on one side and hand spun vintage silk from West Bengal with bold geometric patterns on the reverse.

Silk ikat weaving in Thailand is a traditional craft, particularly famous in the Northeastern region (Isan), including provinces like Surin, Ubon Ratchathani, and Khon Kaen. Thai Mudmee Ikat, as it is locally known, is created using a resist-dye technique where silk threads are carefully tied and dyed before weaving, producing intricate patterns.

West Bengal has a rich history of textile innovation, blending traditional craftsmanship with modernist design influences. During the mid-20th century (1950s–1970s), the region became a hub for experimental textiles, driven by government initiatives, artisan cooperatives, and Santiniketan’s artistic movement.

Kashmiri Aari embroidery is a traditional chain-stitch embroidery technique from Kashmir, created using a hooked needle called Aari. Known for its intricate floral, paisley, and chinar leaf motifs, it is commonly seen on Pashmina shawls, woolens, and silk fabrics. Variations include Tilla Aari (gold/silver threadwork) and Resham Aari (silk thread embroidery), often used for bridal wear and luxury textiles.

Please note, that due to antique nature of the fabrics there may be signs of past experiences - we believe it adds value and a meaning to the garments.

Some naturally dyed fabrics even after lasting generations may leave colour
