KAJ.038
Kantha is an ancient embroidery and quilting tradition originating from Bengal, encompassing present-day Bangladesh and West Bengal, India. Rooted in resourcefulness and craftsmanship, it developed through the layering of worn saris and dhotis, stitched together with simple running stitches to create new garments, blankets, and textiles. Traditionally, women repurposed softened fabrics and even drew threads from the borders of old saris for the embroidery itself, transforming discarded materials into objects of lasting beauty and use.
This particular garment features Nakshi Kantha — a more elaborate and artistic form of the tradition, distinguished by intricate embroidery inspired by folk art, spirituality, nature, and scenes from everyday life.
• Please note, that due to antique nature of the fabrics there may be signs of past experiences – we believe it adds value and meaning to the garments.
• Some naturally dyed fabrics, even after lasting generations, may still release colour.
• Please keep in mind that all Karatoyaa pieces are Dry Clean only with a professional service provider.
