KATSURA.001
The one-of-a-kind Katsura shirt is cut for a relaxed fit and features half-length sleeves and a minimalist mandarin collar.
Crafted from handwoven Tussar silk, the textile unfolds in a striking palette of cream, fire orange, and black. Hand block-printed motifs inspired by Warli traditions animate the front, while the reverse is marked by a series of black linear impressions, creating a quiet contrast between symbolism and abstraction.
Tussar Silk Weaving:
Tussar silk weaving has its origins deeply rooted in Indian textiles, particularly in the eastern states of India such as Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. Also known as "wild silk," Tussar Silk is derived from the larvae of several species of silk moths, and its unique texture and sheen make it highly prized.
The irregularities in the yarn give the fabric a distinct charm, with variations in texture adding to its beauty. Tussar silk is often woven with traditional techniques, such as handloom weaving, which further enhances its artisanal appeal.
Hand Block Printing:
Hand block printing, an ancient art form, finds its roots in various cultures across the globe, but it has flourished particularly in regions like India, China, and Indonesia. Artisans carve intricate designs onto wooden blocks, each representing a single color or part of the pattern. These blocks are then dipped in natural dyes and stamped onto the fabric, creating mesmerizing motifs and designs. The process is repeated meticulously, with each block aligning perfectly to form a cohesive pattern.
Warli Art:
This indigenous art form is deeply rooted in the culture and traditions of the Warli community located in Maharashtra, India ~ With its origins believed to be connected to their rituals and celebrations. What sets Warli Art apart is, its simplicity and symbolism. Traditionally created by the women of the tribe, this art form consists of intricate geometric patterns and motifs depicting scenes from everyday rural life, nature, and folklore. Using only white pigment made from rice paste and bamboo sticks as brushes, Warli artists adorn mud walls, floors, and even cloth with their designs.
