This particular Matsu long kimono style jacket is crafted from one of our most precious textile - Ewe Kente clothes from Ghana. It is reversible and unique from each side.
One side of the kimono jacket showcases the vibrant and rich Ewe Kente textile from Ghana. This textile is celebrated for its bold and colorful geometric patterns, each with its own cultural significance. It's a beautiful representation of Ghanaian heritage and craftsmanship.
Other side is vintage block printed handwoven Tussar silk from India.
Hand Weaving : It is the ancient practice of manually interlacing warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal) threads to create fabric. This craft offers diverse textures, achieved through different weaving techniques like plain weave, twill, or satin. Material selection, such as cotton, silk, or wool, impacts the fabric's characteristics. Skilled weavers control tension and thread arrangement to create intricate patterns and colors, making hand weaving a versatile and visually appealing textile art.
Ewe Kente Textile from Ghana with Technicalities : It is a textile art deeply rooted in Ghanaian culture, particularly among the Ewe people. It features vibrant geometric patterns, known as "kente," each laden with specific meanings and messages. Handwoven on narrow looms, Ewe Kente demands exceptional weaving skill. The colors and thread arrangements are carefully chosen to create intricate designs that represent proverbs, stories, and social status.
These textiles are a source of pride and a reflection of identity and heritage, often worn during significant ceremonies and celebrations.
Tussar silk originated from medieval period. It is made by collecting the
cocoons after silkworms has already emerged. Tribal communities residing in
forests collect the cocoons. The magic of this fabric is that keeps you warm in
the winter and cool in the summer.
Khadi silk can be spun either out of pure silks or be blended with other yarns.
Matka silk fibre, which comes from waste mulberry silk, is used to make the
luminous matka khadi. The silk is usually obtained from Karnataka and Kashmir,
and the yarn is woven into khadi fabric in the West Bengal.
