This particular Matsu long kimono-style jacket is crafted from a vintage Indian silk brocade textile. Reversible in design, the garment reveals a distinct character on each side.

One side showcases a vivid cobalt blue silk ground enriched with intricate floral motifs and vermilion geometric latticework inspired by Mughal ornamental traditions. Woven rather than printed, the brocade carries a luminous depth and ceremonial elegance characteristic of historic Indian court textiles. The rhythmic composition balances architectural geometry with delicate botanical forms, creating a textile that feels both opulent and refined.

The reverse side features a richly patterned vintage Indian brocade in deep earthy burgundy tones, woven with intricate arabesque and floral motifs influenced by Indo-Persian decorative traditions. Its dense ornamental structure and softly aged patina evoke the atmosphere of historical palace interiors and ceremonial garments while retaining an understated sophistication.

Brocade weaving is a highly skilled textile practice in which decorative motifs are woven directly into the fabric structure, often using contrasting silk or metallic threads to create dimensional ornamentation and subtle luminosity. Historically associated with royalty, ceremonial dress, and sacred textiles, brocade weaving remains one of the most sophisticated traditions of Indian textile craftsmanship.
