This particular Matsu long kimono-style jacket is crafted from handwoven textiles originating from Ceylon and India. Reversible in design, the garment reveals a distinct character on each side.

One side features a handwoven cotton textile from Ceylon in layered shades of green and mint. Minimal in composition yet deeply textural, the fabric carries subtle tonal variations and an organic woven structure that creates a sense of rhythm and depth. The luminous green body is framed by softer mint sleeves and collar details, giving the garment a serene and almost elemental presence inspired by tropical landscapes and natural light.

The reverse side is crafted from vintage handwoven silk from India in rich turquoise tones with deep teal undertones. The silk possesses a softly irregular texture and natural slubbing characteristic of artisanal weaving traditions, allowing the surface to shift beautifully between matte and luminous reflections. Dark linear woven accents create a subtle architectural rhythm across the textile, while the contrasting geometric trim adds a refined graphic element to the composition.

Hand weaving is one of the oldest textile-making traditions, based on the manual interlacing of warp and weft threads to create fabric. Through variations in weave structure, fiber, and tension, artisans produce richly textured surfaces and intricate visual rhythms, making each textile entirely unique.

These textiles embody generations of craftsmanship and cultural memory, where material, color, and weaving technique come together to create objects that are both functional and deeply expressive.
